Overlooking Emerald Bay, a glacial scour, from Emerald Bay Pass. Fannette Island, a resistant rib of granite rock which was overridden by the glacial ice, is Lake Tahoe’s only island. Lateral glacial morraines enclose each side of the bay, and an incomplete terminal morraine connects Emerald Bay to Lake Tahoe.
